Andrew Lavoie
Hello! My name is Andrew. Lifelong learner, tinkerer, infrastructure/automation/software enthusiast. My first computer ran Windows95 at age 6, first Linux experience at 12 on my iPod Photo, first lines of code was Python at 14. Though I didn't really 'get it' until my college years.
I got my start in professional IT enlisting in the United States Air Force, building foundational expertise in Cisco router/switch technology (CCNP R/S, CCNA Security, CCDA), Linux CLI, server administration, and enterprise systems. That hands-on experience taught me to think in terms of reliable, scalable architectures.
Realizing the potential to apply software development methodologies to infrastructure systems, I gravitated toward automation and infrastructure-as-code in my career, supporting a variety of vendors that focused on the same problems. I continued honing my software development skills, focusing on the strategy of architecture and design, and pursuing my M.S. in Cybersecurity. I like to build simple, elegant, beautiful solutions (or as close to it given constraints).
When ChatGPT launched, I recognized a fundamental shift in how we build software and operate on enterprise data. I've since dedicated my focus to building LLM based applications, using them to accelerate development workflows, and experimenting with Open Source models in my homelab. Today, I work on business process transformation using AI alongside traditional tools. Data, automation, AI, whatever; let's make it work.
My current personal focus is diving deeper into software development and best practices for building AI applications -- understanding the patterns, architectures, and engineering discipline that separate spaghetti from modular, performant, production-ready systems.
When I'm not at a keyboard, you'll find me cycling, lifting weights, playing with my Fuji XT-5, and trying to find new music. Or just getting outside with my kids. MacOS + Fedora43 :)
